The armored dissorophid (Superfamily Dissorophoidea) labyrinthodont amphibian Cacops aspidephorus is unusual in having a large otic notch closed posteriorly by the tabular. Cacops was previously known only from the "Cacops Bone Bed," Lower Permian of Texas. Poor preservation makes this material difficult to study. Silicified bryozoans in chert nodules derived from the Kaibab Formation are apparently all from facies 1 of the Beta Member. The bryozoans are a typical Permo-Carboniferous assemblage of stenoporid trepostomes, fistuliporid cystoporates, fenestrates, and rhomboporid cryptostomes. Taxa included are in the genera ?Stenodiscus, Fistulipora, Meekopora, Fenestella, Bicorbis, Rhabdomeson, Streblotrypa, and Girtypora (G. maculata, n. sp.). Burrow-casts from fresh-water deposits of the Late Paleozoic have given concrete evidence of the aestivation of the lungfish, Gnathorhiza, and the amphibian, Lysorophus.
